A message from our Mayor
Gay and Lesbian Sport Bern (GLSBe) is a non-profit association. Founded in 1987, it is one of the oldest sports clubs in the LGBTIQ community in Switzerland. GLSBe currently has about 170 members who train in the following sports groups: badminton, bowling, dance, floorball, running, swimming and volleyball.
As a sports club for queers and their friends, we enable athletic activities in a non-discriminatory environment, regardless of origin, social status, age, gender and sexual identity.
When launching GLSBe over twenty years ago, there weren’t many options available for LGBTIQ-communities besides the traditional gay bar. «Practicing sports with liked-minded people is empowering for body and soul», says René Stamm, GLSBe president. «Bern is an open and LGBTIQ friendly city with many sports facilities – ideal for hosting EuroGames 2023. What I particularly like are the short distances between the individual venues. This makes it possible for all athletes to be together and go see other competitions as well.»
In 2011, 2012 and 2014 GLSBe hosted QueerGames in Bern with a handful of sports. We now feel ready to take it to the next level and to welcome guests from all over the world. Come out and play in Bern 2023!
Our EuroGames 2023 ambassador
Maja Neuenschwander is the ambassador for our bid to bring EuroGames 2023 to Bern. She is the Swiss marathon record holder and an openly lesbian athlete.
