Code of Conduct
Our commitment to diversity and inclusion
Our understanding of diversity and inclusion is based on mutual acceptance and respect. By that we mean accepting our individual differences and respecting that every person is unique in terms of ethnicity, religion, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, political beliefs and athletic abilities.
EuroGames 2023 Bern is all about creating a safe, positive and nurturing environment where we can explore these differences and celebrate the many dimensions of diversity contained within each individual and our communities.
Diversity and inclusion not only encompass the mutual respect for qualities and experiences that are different from our own, but also the understanding that forms of discrimination create privileges for some while creating disadvantages for others.
At EuroGames we strive to implement a set of conscious practices that involve:
- Recognising that there is gender beyond the binary.
- Understanding that every coming out process is different and unique.
- Engaging all athletes, staff, volunteers, sponsors, partners, external experts and referees in our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Respecting the individual’s right to self-identification.
- Establishing a safe space that is open to each individual.
By protecting diversity and promoting inclusion, we will create a cooperative community based on equity and mutual respect – the foundation for a success-oriented tournament.
All participants of EuroGames Bern 2023 must adhere to the following code of conduct
- Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit. Please remember that the EuroGames are a community-led social sport competition. We are all here to have fun.
- Be a good sport. Applaud all good performance whether they are made by yourself or the opponent(s).
- Compete and play by the rules set forth by your sport.
- Cooperate with tournament officials, referees, your teammates, opponents and EuroGames staff and volunteers. Without them there would be no competition.
- Never argue with a tournament official. If you disagree, have a third party such as your captain or another participant approach the official during a break or after the competition.
- Control your temper. Verbal and physical abuse of tournament officials, participants and spectators, deliberately distracting or provoking others are not acceptable or permitted behaviours.
- Treat all participants in your sport as you like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor.
- Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, ability, cultural background or religion.
- Any physical or verbal altercation will not be tolerated with offending parties being immediately ejected from the competition. Poor team behaviour may result in the removal of that team from EuroGames.
